About Us

GPI is a non-profit organization founded and registered in October 2012. It was formed by Farmers, women, agricultural experts and professionals, and youth, and functions under organization. Through strategic initiatives and collaborative efforts, GPI has emerged as a pivotal force in championing land use rights and sustainable development.

Since its inception, GPI has dedicated itself to nurturing individuals capable of effecting positive change. From legal empowerment to good agricultural practices for sustainable development, GPI consistently produces trainers and paralegals equipped to provide vital services. These efforts extend to community-based youth programs, where future leaders are groomed to navigate the complex landscape of land laws and rights. By raising awareness and facilitating access to legal protection, GPI empowers villagers, women, and residents, ensuring they secure their rightful land tenure, agricultural rights, and environmental conservation.

GPI’s mission is the steadfast commitment to residents and local farmers’ land use rights and secure lives. Through awareness, identifying local land use, legal aid activities and advocacy campaigns, GPI strives to safeguard land tenure security and protect land use rights and environmental rights. implementing and collaborating with paralegals and governmental bodies, GPI resolves land disputes and organizes agricultural training sessions, empowering farmers with essential skills and knowledge. Moreover, GPI has coordinated with the government department for agroforestry technologies, to promote collaboration among stakeholders and cooperates with partner organizations driving to formulate national Land use policy, and then works with parliamentary affairs committees to amend laws negatively affecting residents and farmers. The GPI organization was a member of the National Land Law Drafting and Harmonization Committee, which covers all land laws. 

Beyond its core objectives, GPI engages in a multitude of endeavors aimed at societal advancement. From organizing workshops on land laws to providing voter education, GPI actively contributes to democratization processes and social justice initiatives. By supporting landless farmers and women, and implementing income generation projects, GPI fosters livelihood resilience and community development. Moreover, GPI has actively participated in policy advocacy, presenting recommendations for the revision of outdated laws, and collaborating with governmental bodies to enact meaningful reforms.

Through collaboration with partners, GPI contributes to the formulation of national policies and advocates for systemic changes beneficial to marginalized communities. From promoting the rule of law to combating land injustice, GPI’s initiatives tackle multifaceted challenges with precision and dedication. By implementing projects focused on legal awareness training, legal support, workshop, advocacy, and community empowerment, GPI leaves an indelible mark on the landscape of land rights and social justice.

In 2015, GPI undertook formal election observation and monitoring in 14 townships, a testament to its commitment to democratic processes and transparency. Subsequent projects, supported by organizations like French Embassy “Voter Education in Delta”, LCG “Land Law Land Rights Training”, USAID-FHI360“Advocacy and awareness raising on laws concerning farmer rights” phrase 1 and 2, USAID-PRLP “Promoting the Rule of Law in Delta”, USAID-TETRA TECH “Land Law Land Rights Training”, Namati “paralegal Project”, and CCFD-French “Combating Land Injustice in coastal area”, further underscore GPI’s unwavering dedication to promoting land ownership rights, food security, and justice for marginalized communities.

The organization has been able to work with partners to implement positive reforms. By doing so, we were able to obtain awards along with successful milestones. In addition, one official of GPI in 2018 had the opportunity to participate in the International Visitor Leadership Program – IVLP selected by the staff at embassy.
